Volunteers always welcome
The Museum is a self-funded charitable organisation run predominantly by a team of highly motivated and willing volunteers. We are always happy to receive new volunteers. Pop into the museum and have a chat. Collect an application form from the museum shop. Here are some of the areas you could work in: Front of House Welcoming visitors, selling items in the shop and using an electronic till. The role may also involve opening up the Museum (morning shift) or closing and locking up (afternoon shift). If you like to meet and talk to new people, this role could be for you. Maintenance There are always plenty of jobs to do around these eighteenth century buildings occupied by the Museum. Whether you are a skilled workman or a willing enthusiast for DIY, we need you! Collections management The work is varied and interesting and includes: looking after the items already held by the Museum; accessioning and photographing new donations; specialist cleaning; assisting with displays and collections. Schools visits and events helpers School visits are a great part of what the Museum offers and we have a team of volunteers willing to dress the part to demonstrate to the children different aspects of Victorian life – from the schoolroom (run very strictly by Miss Grimm) to the laundry (Miss Scrubbit). Hornsea Pottery We probably have the largest collection of Hornsea Pottery in the UK. With over 2000 items on display and even more in our pottery archive, there is always plenty of work to keep our volunteers busy. |
